13. Silence Sacred

Hush, hush, don't speak now.
The silence is like a veil,
shrouding us in night.
Behind its screen, we are a
deep mystery, kept from light.

12. Morning Bus Stop

The crisp morning air
is tugging on my skirt hem,
begging me to dance
beneath a yellowing skyline
and a thin grin of a moon.

11. Nostalgia

Homesick reverie
is a spring rain in my chest
with you beside me.

10. Mystic

The skin of the trees
is rough, cracked, and puzzling.
I read the riddles
concealed in the fractured bark
with fingers as callused and scarred.

09. Sixteen

We give too much when
we are sixteen and in love;
we lose it all when
we are desperate to gain
everything by gaining love.

08. Broken

Sallow skin and scars
may define her brokenness,
but her strength defines beauty.

07. All I Ask of You

Promises of love
and protection fall like snow,
soft and enchanting.
Stolen kisses bloom amidst
winter like sweet camellia.

Betrayed and denied,
love discarded and ignored,
the phantom's despair
consumes him; the rose he gave
crumbles, like his dreams of her.

06. Jade Figurine

Soft features chiseled
from the limestone of the East,
gleaming in candlelight
and cloaked in the violet smoke
of incense burning mildly.

05. Elation, Deflation

Swollen lungs deflate
with a rush of breath and tears
as you break my heart again.

04. Full Moon

A buttercream gaze,
warm and motherly, like home.
I sigh, chin in hand,
and wish on shooting comets
for a chance to touch her face.

03. Revelation

Horror stuck, I watched
as they cast aside the cloaks
I'd placed upon them;
Their scars stood out, illumined
in the soft, unearthly glow.

Disgust, like sour bile,
rose in my constricted throat:
disgust at myself
for having wanted to hide
the truth, sheltering my sight.

Never as they seem,
these people sitting 'round me.
Never as they seem,
these people wading through life;
they never cease to surprise.

I'm guilty of God,
guilty of sitting proud, high.
I'm guilty of fear,
of not knowing what is right.
I do not hold the answers.

But: I do believe
in love mending busted seams;
I believe in us.
I believe I'll reclaim cloaks,
and let you speak truth to me.

02. Sunlight

Rays of sun like silk,
rippling over our bare skin,
cloaks us both in warmth.

01. Love Like Jazz

In dreams, I stand tall
and brush the wheeling planets
with fingers stained blue--
stained with the ink of your love,
your love that's as blue as jazz.

This month is officially the Haiku Writing Month! Everyday, participants in this event (which would include me) will be writing a haiku, one for each day in April. This submission will continue to be updated with my daily haikus, senryus, and tankas. So keep a look out, and if this activity is something that you might be interested in participating in, just go to the-haiku-club to learn more!

Glory-Be-Project is also hosting a NaPoWriMo, encouraging all to write a little something everyday! Check out their page, and join in on the fun!

1. This poem is a tanka, conveying how, in my dreams, the one I love loves me in return.
2. Sunlight is a simple 5.7.5 haiku, relating the romantic warmth of the Spring sunshine. Love The Sunshine

3. Revelation is a series of tankas, written for a group of my friends. I learned a lot about them one night, and it rather shocked me--not because I hadn't guessed, but because I had refused to believe it before; I had willingly been deceiving myself, making myself believe that they were different people than they really were, because the truth frightened me. People will never cease to amaze me, no matter how close I am to them. That is a truth that I am learning, though I am not sure if I like it much. However, I have decided to face the truth, and love them anyway; to me, it has became a matter of loving the person for who they are, rather than shying away from them because of what they have done. I am reclaiming the cloaks that I have placed on people shoulders; I am going to kiss their scars, rather than cover them.

4. Full moon last night! Words cannot truly describe (though I try my best to make them!) how enchanting the moon is to me. Maybe this is a bit of a stretch, but I feel like the moon is a sort of guardian spirit--like a celestial mother. Her sweet face fills me with longing.

5. No matter how many times a certain someone keeps telling herself that she's over another certain someone, he continues to fill her lungs with sunshine and helium. And then, of course, her heart gets crushed (again; I mean, really, at this point, the wounds are just reopening) when she's reminded of this other certain someone's certain someone... :meow: Did any of this riddle make sense? Basically, unrequited love, and the ups and downs of it all. That's what this katauta is about.

6. A tanka for little buddhas!

7. Okay, I have a confession to make: I am obsessed with The Phantom of the Opera. Particularly the song "All I Ask of You," which inspired this set of tankas. If you have never seen Phantom, never fear; here are the links of the clips that I used for this piece: All I Ask of YouAll I Ask of You (Reprise) Gerard Butler, the man who plays the part of the Phantom, is phenomenal. And in case you can't understand the opera (the Phantom is very quiet at first), just read the lyrics as you're watching (you have to watch the clip, though, and not just listen! Butler is an amazing actor, and the energy he harnesses in this scene is intense! It will sock you right in the feels, I guarantee it!) Here're the lyrics: All I Ask of You Lyrics Enjoy! sad phantom of the opera

8. Thanks to this song for inspiration for my katauta: Broken by Helen Jane Long

9. Listening to Marina and The Diamond's "Teen Idle" and Nevershoutnever's "Losing It" when I wrote this one. :blue: Loss of innocence, man. Teenage years are never easy on anyone.

10. A tanka I wrote while gazing at an amazing photograph of a forest. The bark on the pines just got me thinking about puzzles and riddles, so this what the result! A poem!

11. This time, I was listening to Death Cab for Cutie's "Passenger Seat" (which is one of my favorite songs, by the way ) when I wrote this haiku. Some people just feel like home. pink heart bullet

12. Beautiful morning as I walked to my bus stop!

13. Don't really know what this one's about...it just kinda came to me.
